1141 Son of Henry Harrison. Henry Edward was already married when the marriage between him and Mary Bagot was performed, and his wife Catherine was well and living in Adelaide, South Australia

He was also sued for bankruptcy.
------------------------------
The South Australian Advertiser (Adelaide, SA : 1858-1889) Wednesday 13 September 1871

HARRISON V. HARRISON Mr. Ingleby for the petitioner; the respondent was unrepresented. This was a suit brought by the wife for a divorce, on the grounds of adultery and bigamy.

Mr. Ingleby stated that in this case Catherine Parker Harrison, sued her husband, Henry Edward Harrison, -with a view of obtaining a divorce. The circumstances were these—The petitioner and respondent were married in Engiand, and after the marrinage they lived together, but some disagreement seemed to have taken place between them, and the husband left England and came to South Australia, where he became surgeon at the Adelaide Hospital. The respondent subsequently went through the ceremony of marriage with Miss Blood, a daughter of Dr. Blood, and lived with her as his wife. The following evidence was then elicited: — Catherine Parker Harrison said ?? I have been married to Henry Edward Harrison. My maiden name was Wharton. I was married on the 3lst of December, 1866, in the parish of St. James. Westminster. I got the certificate produced at the time of my marriage. I have one child. I have seen my husband in this colony. He told me he had married Miss Blood here. By His Honor—The respondent ceased to live with me when he came to this colony; I think that was in 1867. Doing the interval we lived as man and wife.

Thomas Jasper Smyth, clerk in Holy Orders - of the Church of England, licensed to celebrate marriages in the province, said — I know Dr. Harrison, and I also know Mary Bagot Smyth Blood. The ceremony of maraage was performed by me between those two in March, 1870, at Christchurch, Kapunda.

Mr. Ingleby — I also put in the certificate of the marriage, to make the evidence clearer, under the hand of Mr. Cleland. Mary Murphy, single woman, said — I know Dr. Harrison and.Miss Blood. I served them as servant I was engaged at Kapunda, and went with them to Mount Barker. They occupied the same bedroom, and lived together as man and wife. I was with them till they broke up house, 10 weeks ago.

His Honor summed up, strongly commenting upon the very gross conduct of the respondent towards Miss Blood. A number of questions were submitted to the Jury, and they found that the petitioner and respondent were married, and lived together as man and wife; that the ceremony of marriage had been gone through by the respondent with Miss Blood, by which he was guilty of bigamy ; and that the respondent had committed adultery with Miss Blood, with whom be had lived as man and wife. The Court then adjourned till next day.
